THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A Malayali girl died after jumping from the building of a private nursing college in Marthandam. The dead has been identified as Ansiji (21) of Kathipara in Neyyattinkara. She died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. She was a third-year student of a private nursing college in Marthandam. Her family alleged that persistent mental harassment by college teachers and authorities led to her suicide.
She jumped from the building of the private nursing college located at Karungal in Kanya Kumari district of Tamil Nadu. She was found with multiple fractures to her limbs and other parts of her body and was admitted to a private hospital in Neyyattinkara. She was later shifted to a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram for better treatment, but her life could not be saved.
Ansija and several other students of the hostel staged a protest a few months ago over the poor quality of food served. Following the protests, the students involved were expelled from the college hostel. The parents alleged that after the students shifted to a private hostel, they were subjected to mental harassment by teachers and college management officials.
The family has filed a complaint with the police. However, college authorities denied the allegations, saying that they conducted a search when she came with a mobile phone. They termed the other allegations and complaints as baseless.
