NEW YORK: New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani did not hide his indifference while responding to the upcoming event featuring the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief in the city. As per RSS sources, Mohan Bhagwat will speak at an event in Manhattan on Saturday.
"My vision of India is different, and what I was taught is a pluralistic society of a secular republic. However, in recent times, it was troubling enough to see the rise of an exclusionary vision in the country. I don’t personally support the rally, but I don’t think there is any jurisdiction for the city to cancel such an event," said Mamdani.
The event is organised by American Hindus for Engagement and Dialogue and backed by several other Hindu outfit groups. Earlier this year, RSS confirmed Bhagwat’s foreign tours, including the United States, to bust the narrative of the outfit being a paramilitary force rooted in religion.
