NEW DELHI: Two Pakistan-made beauty creams have come under a nationwide public health alert after tests found excessive levels of heavy metals in the products. The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has warned consumers against buying or using Goree Beauty Cream and Chandni Whitening Cream, both labelled “Made in Pakistan”. The regulator said the products are unauthorised and do not have the registration certificate required for their import for sale in India. The warning was issued in a public notice dated September 8.

Tests and analysis found heavy metals in the creams at levels above the specified limits. CDSCO said the products may pose health risks to consumers, including toxic effects. The regulator has asked establishments and individuals not to sell, distribute or advertise the two creams. Drug regulatory enforcement units have also been directed to ensure that the products are not sold in their respective jurisdictions.

Consumers who have already bought the creams have been advised not to use them. CDSCO has also cautioned against similarly named cosmetic products. The regulator urged consumers to buy only authorised cosmetics. Such products should carry details including the manufacturing licence number, manufacturer’s name and other details, batch number, manufacturing and expiry dates, and the registration number for imported cosmetics.
