NAGERCOIL: A 78-year-old woman living alone was murdered at her home in Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu. Around 20 sovereigns of gold jewellery and Rs 25,000 in cash were also reported missing from the house. The deceased has been identified as Chinnamma, a native of Theradimoodu near Vadiveeswaram. She had been living alone after her daughters got married and moved away.

One of her daughters had visited the house as usual on Sunday afternoon to give her food. Later in the evening, another daughter arrived at the house and found Chinnamma lying dead with her hands tied and her throat slit.

The jewellery Chinnamma was wearing and other ornaments kept in an almirah were missing. Police also found that cash had been stolen from the house. Investigators suspect that the elderly woman was tied up and murdered during a robbery. Kottar police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.
