Nepal flash floods: India to send emergency aid; first relief flight to depart tonight

NEW DELHI: India will provide emergency assistance to Nepal, which has been hit by devastating flash floods. The first Indian Air Force C-130J transport aircraft carrying relief materials will leave for Nepal around midnight on Wednesday, according to Air Force sources.

Another aircraft carrying emergency relief supplies is expected to fly to Nepal early Thursday morning, the sources said.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke over the phone with Nepal Prime Minister Balen Shah and offered India’s support to the people of Nepal. Modi expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives in the disaster and conveyed his condolences to the families of the victims.

He assured Shah that India would stand in solidarity with Nepal during the difficult period and said the country was fully prepared to provide all necessary humanitarian assistance.
