Food poisoning on Mangaluru Express; Malayali students suffer vomiting and dizziness

NEW DELHI: Around 40 students from Thrissur fell ill while travelling from Delhi to Kerala on the Mangaluru-Lakshadweep Express after reportedly consuming food from the train pantry. The students complained of vomiting and dizziness, prompting railway authorities to stop the train at Khandwa station in Madhya Pradesh for medical assistance.

The incident occurred around 9 pm on Friday. The students are part of a group of 80 students and 10 teachers who were returning to Kerala after a school trip. The affected students were travelling in the S2 and S3 coaches.

The students began experiencing health problems after the train crossed Itarsi station. The teachers immediately alerted railway officials and contacted the railway helpline. Following the alert, railway authorities arranged a medical team at Khandwa station.

When the train reached Khandwa on Friday night, the affected students were taken off the train and given medical attention. Doctors examined them and assessed their condition before the train resumed its journey after a delay of around 40 minutes.

A special railway medical team accompanied the students until Bhusawal station as a precaution. Railway officials said all the affected students were safe and continued their journey to Kerala.

The Mangaluru-Lakshadweep Express departed from Hazrat Nizamuddin on Friday morning and is scheduled to reach Ernakulam around 9 am on Sunday.
