NEW DELHI: Union Minister George Kurian's name is not in the BJP's list of candidates for Rajya Sabha seats. George Kurian's term ends this month. The BJP has announced Tarun Chowk and Rajneesh Agarwal for the two Rajya Sabha seats that are falling vacant in Madhya Pradesh.

George Kurian was elected to the Rajya Sabha in August 2024 after becoming a Union Minister of State. Since George Kurian is not in the list of candidates, he will lose his position as a Union Minister, and is expected to resign from the post soon.

George Kurian also contested from Kanjirappally in this year's assembly elections. However, Kurian put out a disappointing performance, not even getting the votes managed by former union minister Alphons Kannanthanam from the same constituency.

George Kurian is currently in charge of the Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Minority Affairs departments. Reports suggest that Kurian will be removed from the post of Union Minister in the cabinet reshuffle.
