MUMBAI: Shiromani Akali Dal leader and former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal was attacked. He was injured in the attack and has been admitted to the hospital. He was attacked when he had reached Nanded in Maharashtra from Punjab around 11 am today.
The attack took place near the Mata Sahib Gurudwara in Nanded Sahib. The attacker reportedly attacked Sukhbir Singh with a sharp weapon. He sustained injuries on his right hand. He was immediately admitted to a nearby private hospital.
A security guard who tried to stop the attack was also injured. The attacker was reportedly caught by the police at the scene. Sukhbir Singh Badal was accompanied by his wife and Akali Dal MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal. The police said that an investigation has been launched into the incident. Sukhbir Singh Badal is the son of former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. In December 2024, there was an assassination attempt on Badal in front of the Golden Temple in Amritsar. A gunman opened fire on him but he escaped unharmed.
