NEW DELHI: Activist Sonam Wangchuk, who has been on a hunger strike at Jantar Mantar for more than 20 days, was arrested from the protest site and shifted to the hospital. The police reached the protest site early Saturday morning. Wangchuk is protesting demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in connection with the NEET irregularities.
The doctors had the other day warned that his health condition was critical. The police are in the process of evacuating other protesters of the Cockroach Janta Party at Jantar Mantar. Paramilitary forces have reached the spot. Sonam Wangchuk was removed from the spot after being covered with a white cloth. The officials were also asking the CJP workers who were protesting vigorously to remain calm.
The Delhi High Court had directed the authorities two days ago to examine the health condition of Sonam Wangchuk. The court had also observed that the life of any citizen is valuable. The police who reached Jantar Mantar said that the action was taken as Wangchuk's health condition was deteriorating and as per the order of the high court.
A medical bulletin released two days ago revealed that Wangchuk had lost more than eight kilos. In the past few days, several leaders from opposition parties have expressed solidarity with Wangchuk and asked him to end his hunger strike, considering his health.
