NEW DELHI: Activist Sonam Wangchuk has confirmed that he will take part in the Parliament march planned for July 20 by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP). In a light-hearted remark, he said that if the movement fails, he would "come back as a ghost." Wangchuk has been on a hunger strike for the past 20 days.
"I will remain alive no matter what, and I will join you in the Parliament march on July 20. If the July 20 march does not succeed, I will come back as a ghost," Wangchuk said while addressing party supporters at Jantar Mantar.
Wangchuk is staging the hunger strike demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The CJP has been protesting at Jantar Mantar for the past 28 days over the same demand. The party has named its July 20 march to Parliament 'Sansad Chalo'. The protest is scheduled to take place on the day the Monsoon Session of Parliament begins.
Addressing supporters, Wangchuk said that although his physical condition had weakened because of the prolonged fast, his determination remained strong.
"Physically, I am weak, but mentally I am strong. I believe all of you are strong both physically and mentally. We will need that strength on July 20 when we march peacefully to Parliament. Together, we will go to the temple of democracy and submit our demands," he said.
