CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph C. Vijay conducted a surprise inspection of the M.C. Raja Adi Dravidar Hostel in Saidapet, following complaints from students regarding poor living conditions and subpar facilities.
During the visit to the facility, which is under the administration of the Social Justice Department, students detailed several grievances to the Chief Minister. Among the primary concerns raised were the quality of food, which residents alleged frequently contained insects and pests, as well as unhygienic conditions in the kitchen and restrooms.
Students further cited a lack of adequate water supply, a shortage of staff, and the absence of CCTV surveillance. They also reported that residents are routinely denied entry to the hostel if they arrive after 9:30 PM, creating difficulties for those returning from work or coaching classes.
Chief Minister Vijay interacted with the students and promised that all issues raised would be addressed. He directed the accompanying officials to initiate immediate remedial measures to improve the hostel's standards. This inspection follows an earlier surprise visit the Chief Minister made to a local children's hospital.
