Drug sales centered around beauty parlour; Four arrested, including Mampad college lecturer

MALAPPURAM: Four including a guest lecturer of a college, have been arrested in an MDMA case. The arrested are Suhail Peringodan (31), a lecturer at MES College at Mampad in Malappuram, Subrahmanyan (38), owner of a beauty parlour in Nilambur, Vivek (36), and Reena of Edavanna. A police team led by Malappuram sub inspector K M Arshid arrested them on Thursday.

The four were caught during an inspection conducted based on confidential information received by the police. The drug sales were allegedly being operated from a beauty parlour owned by Subrahmanyan. The police had earlier conducted a search at the establishment. They seized 0.4 grams of MDMA and 0.5 grams of ganja from Subrahmanyan. Based on the information obtained from him, the police traced Suhail.

The group allegedly purchased drugs from wholesale dealers in Manjeri and Kondotty. Suhail, a lecturer was found to have sold the drugs to students and friends in Nilambur and nearby areas.

Although no MDMA was seized from Suhail, police said he admitted during questioning that he regularly used and sold MDMA. Officers confirmed this by examining his WhatsApp chats and financial transactions. The police said a detailed investigation would be launched to arrest others involved in the drug network. The accused will be produced before the court today.
