Drunk son brutally assaults mother in Kothamangalam; taken into custody

KOCHI: A man who had been repeatedly assaulting his mother under the influence of alcohol, has been taken into custody by the police. The incident happened at Kudamunda in Kothamangalam. The victim, 70-year-old Ponnamma of Pothanicad, had been repeatedly beaten by her son identified as Kuttayi. The visuals of him brutally assaulting his mother the other day, had surfaced.

The neighbours and local residents had earlier alleged that the police were not taking appropriate action despite being aware of the incident. The Pothanicad police later reached her house and shifted her to a shelter home. Kuttayi had fled the place after knowing about the arrival of the police. He was later taken into custody following an investigation.

Kuttayi comes home drunk and was in the habit of assaulting his mother. When he was at home, Ponnamma would spend time sitting on the veranda or even on the road out of fear. He came home drunk the other day and got into an argument with his mother and then assaulted her. The police took him into custody although he fled after the incident attracted widespread attention.
