‘Are they so uncivilised?’: Minister Bindu Krishna tears into Men’s Association office-bearers over anti-women remarks

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister Bindu Krishna has strongly criticised the office-bearers of the Men’s Association over controversial remarks allegedly made by them. “Are the Men’s Association office-bearers so uncivilised?” the minister asked, adding that anyone holding office in an organisation should at least have basic decency. She was speaking at a women’s gathering held in Thiruvananthapuram.

“We are not against men. Men who have self-respect in the organisation should think about whether such people, who make derogatory remarks against women, should be allowed to remain in positions of responsibility,” Bindu Krishna said.

“India gained independence at midnight, but even 79 years later, there is a situation where nights are becoming inaccessible to women. Women still do not have complete freedom to move through public spaces without fear, whether during the day or at night,” she said.

The minister was responding to remarks made by Vattiyoorkavu Ajith Kumar, state president of the All Kerala Men’s Association, against the women’s gathering. His comments had drawn criticism for being perceived as anti-women.
