Man held for trying to kill wife by setting her on fire

KOCHI: A 42-year-old woman was seriously injured after her husband allegedly poured petrol on her and set her on fire following a family dispute. She has been admitted to a private hospital in Kakkanad.

The victim, Jayashree, a native of Alappuzha, was attacked in front of the hostel where she lives at Ambadimoola around 9 pm on Tuesday. Her husband, Anil Kumar, a native of Pathanamthitta, has been taken into custody by the Kakkanad police.

According to eyewitnesses, Anil Kumar reached the hostel and sprayed pepper spray on Jayashree’s face before pouring petrol on her and setting her on fire. Both Jayashree and Anil Kumar are employees at a private hospital in Kakkanad.

Jayashree suffered serious burns to her face and body and is undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit. Police have started an investigation into the incident.
