Kidnap scare in Chengannur: 13-year-old boy vanishes on way to school; note points to Chennai, Kolkata

CHENGANNUR: A 13-year-old schoolboy has gone missing from near the Puliyoor Ayurveda Hospital, with a note found at his home claiming that he was being taken to Chennai and Kolkata. Police have launched an investigation after the boy's relatives lodged a complaint.

Kailas, son of Sunil and Maya of Sunil Bhavan, Puliyoor, is a student of SN Trust HSS, Cheriyanad. He has been missing since 8.45 am on Tuesday.

Kailas left home in his school uniform as usual in the morning. His mother tried to accompany him, but he refused and said he would travel to school by autorickshaw on his own.

Soon after he left, the family found a note on the grill of the house gate. It said: "We are taking your son. We are going to Chennai and Kolkata. Do not come looking for him."

The family immediately contacted the school and the autorickshaw driver, only to find that Kailas had not reached school. A search of the house then revealed that Rs 3,500, new clothes bought for Onam and his elder brother's mobile phone were missing.

The autorickshaw driver's number had also been deleted from the phone used by Kailas. The mobile phone he is believed to have taken with him has been switched off.

Kailas had packed books, a lunch box and a writing pad in his school bag, his father Sunil said. He also said a teacher had called the family the previous day and spoken about the boy scoring low marks in a science examination.

Police said there were some errors in the handwriting of the note but suspect that Kailas himself may have written it due to pressure caused by the circumstances.

Police are examining CCTV footage from places the boy is likely to have travelled to as part of the search.
