THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Another arrest has been made in the Pangappara Abhiram murder case. Aishwarya (21), a native of Akkulam, reported to be the girlfriend of the second accused Umar, was arrested in the case. She was taken into custody on Thursday morning and subsequently arrested in the evening following interrogation.
The police’s preliminary findings suggested the case was a premeditated murder. Previously, the police had arrested a 17-year-old (the first accused), Umar (who is also an accused in a KAAPA case), and Ananda (an 18-year-old female friend of the first accused) in connection with the case.
The first accused confessed that he committed the murder alone and that Umar had merely assisted in burying the body. However, the police investigation confirmed that Umar had a direct involvement in the murder. The police also questioned Aishwarya on the same day the other accused were arrested; this questioning was based on the suspicion that she had prior knowledge of the murder. Subsequently, as the investigation progressed and concrete evidence against Aishwarya emerged, her arrest was formally recorded.
