Another Twist: ‘Not Sukumara Kurup’; Passport belongs to Wadakkanchery native,’ confirms family

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The passport collected by the police on suspicion of belonging to Sukumara Kurup, the prime accused in the Chacko murder case, has been

confirmed as that of Damodaran Menon of Karumathara in Wadakkanchery, Thrissur. Menon’s brother Karunakaran confirmed the information to a private television channel.

Damodara Menon left for Malaysia 40 years ago. He married a woman from Palakkad and have two children. He is presently undergoing treatment after sustaining injuries in an accident. His brother said that he is in regular touch with his family here and had called them a month ago.

Kurup has remained the subject of rumours even four decades after his disappearance. Reports had surfaced yesterday claiming that Kurup is still alive and is in Brunei. It was alleged that he had been living there under the fake identity of a Malayali born in Malaysia, while his wife and son are in Abu Dhabi. Photographs purportedly showing Kurup in Brunei had also emerged.

There were also reports that he was running a business and a construction company in Sing Pang, near the Malaysia-Brunei border, in partnership with a Chinese national, and that he had no contact with Malayalees. However, Crime Branch IG S Shyamsundar told Kerala Kaumudi that no such information had been received and that the reports were likely to be rumours.

The man who resembles Kurup is 78 years old. However, the crime branch says that Kurup would now be around 83. Some television channels even released visuals allegedly showing Kurup’s ‘hideout’. The crime branch has said that these claims too have not been confirmed.
