PM SHRI, SATHEESAN

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A section of leaders at the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee office-bearers' meeting voiced opposition to the implementation of the PM SHRI scheme. Many leaders came in unison to suggest that the victory in elections was attributed to opposing the PM SHRI scheme and that it would be difficult to convince the general public otherwise. However, V.D. Satheesan responded that the PM SHRI scheme was not the sole reason for the election victory and that withdrawing from the scheme doesn’t look like a wise move. He added that Congress Chief Ministers in other states had implemented the scheme and that the state would place conditions before the Centre.

P.M. Niyas, Deepthi Mary Varghese, Mathew Kuzhalnadan, and A.A. Shukoor were among those who opposed the PM SHRI scheme. Niyas stated that the PM SHRI issue had contributed to the UDF's victory, but the Chief Minister countered that it was one of the many factors that led to the UDF's win. The Chief Minister clarified that the state government would decide on the curriculum and schools and would impose conditions.

The Muslim League had also previously expressed opposition to the implementation of the PM SHRI scheme.
