THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM state secretary M V Govindan reacted on the incident of giving clean chit to Chief Minister V D Satheesan in the Punarjani project. Govindan clarified that there is evidence for Satheesan requesting funds from abroad. The CPM also released a video of Satheesan seeking help from abroad. He added that the closure of the proceedings against Satheesan is illegal and an attempt is being made to erase a serious issue. Govindan clarified that a serious investigation was needed in the matter.

Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala informed that the internal vigilance department has decided to close the case filed by the previous government against Satheesan in the

Punarjani project. The vigilance director had submitted a report requesting that V D Satheesan be removed from the case as no evidence could be found against him in the vigilance investigation ordered by the previous government in connection with Punarjani. It was in this context that V D Satheesan was given a clean chit. The home minister also clarified that it was proven that Satheesan had not committed any offence under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The vigilance report had stated that the then opposition leader was not involved in the allegations of irregularities in the collection of funds for the Punarjani project. The reference was in the letter handed over to the vigilance director by the DIG in September 2025. The report says that it was not possible to find that money had been received in V D Satheesan's account.

The letter also mentioned that no investigation was conducted on this matter as it was not alleged in the complaint that Satheesan had bought property after his foreign visit. The Punarjani fund was managed by a voluntary organization called Manappad Foundation. The vigilance had clarified that it was not found that Satheesan had handled the funds.
