Lorry carrying laterite stones overturns onto house, driver killed

KASARAGOD: A 39-year-old lorry driver was killed after a lorry carrying laterite stones lost control and overturned onto a house at Kanjirappoyil Kulangadu in Kasaragod. The deceased has been identified as Sadiq, son of K.P. Kareem, who was residing in the quarters near the N.G. Memorial Reading Room at Chayyoth.


The accident occurred around 8 am yesterday. The lorry, bearing registration number KL 58 H 5915, reportedly overturned into a pit after the side of the road collapsed while Sadiq was turning the vehicle after unloading part of its load of stones. A portion of the house belonging to Gopalan of Kalikkadavu at Kulangatt was damaged in the accident.

Sadiq had worked as a private bus driver for a long time. Sunday was his fourth wedding anniversary, and the family was making preparations for the occasion when the accident occurred.

He is survived by his mother Beefaathima, wife Rusana and only son Izaan. His siblings are Nasrath, Kunjasiya, Shajitha, Shafi and Tasleema, all of Chayyoth, and Sabira of Kadappuram.
