KOCHI: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has questioned the managing director of Lakeshore Hospital in Kochi in the case of money laundering in organ trafficking. He was summoned to the ED office in Kochi and questioned. The ED is investigating the money laundering case in organ trafficking using fake documents registered in six police stations in Kerala. As part of this, the ED had recently conducted inspections at various places, including private hospitals. The police had found that there is a large mafia group inside and outside Kerala for organ trafficking.
The Alappuzha Rural Police had arrested Najeeb, the main accused in the case. The organ trafficking was under the guise of medical tourism. Najeeb had created a large network for organ trafficking under the guise of a company called Kallatras Medical Tourism Private Limited. The fraud took place in several districts. They find people with financial difficulties and secured organ transplants for a small amount and hand them over to those seeking treatment in private hospitals for a large amount. The ED in its initial investigation found that after each surgery, the hospitals paid Najeeb a large amount as commission.
