COVID deaths: Government allocates Rs 9.96 crore to support dependants

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government has allocated Rs 9.96 crore to a financial assistance scheme for the families of people who died of COVID. The amount has been sanctioned under a scheme that provides Rs 5,000 per month to families from the BPL category who faced severe financial difficulties after losing a family breadwinner or a parent to COVID.

The funds have been sanctioned based on reports submitted by the district collectors of Kozhikode, Ernakulam and Pathanamthitta. The amount has been allocated from the Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund. The financial assistance will be transferred directly to the bank accounts of eligible families. Eligible BPL families will receive the assistance for three consecutive years.
