Heavy rains in state today; orange alert in two districts, yellow in six

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There is a possibility of widespread rain in the state today. Orange alert has been issued in two districts. Yellow alert has also been issued in six districts. Idukki and Ernakulam are on orange alert and Kasaragod, Kannur, Thrissur, Alappuzha, Kottayam and Pathanamthitta on yellow alert.


Strong winds are also likely. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has advised people to be vigilant. Rain has been predicted in various districts in the coming days. It is also reported that there is a possibility of rain with thunderstorms in isolated places. A thunderstorm alert has also been issued.


Thunderstorm alert
Immediately move inside a safe building after seeing the first sign of thunderstorms. Remaining in open areas increases the risk of being struck by thunderstorms.

Keep windows and doors closed during periods of strong winds and thunderstorms. Do not stand near doors and windows. Stay inside the building and try to avoid touching the walls or floor as much as possible.

Unplug household appliances. Avoid being near electrical appliances during a thunderstorm.

Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm. It is safe to use a mobile phone.

Avoid playing outdoors and on terraces, including with children, if the weather is cloudy.

Do not stand under trees during a thunderstorm. Do not park vehicles under trees.
