THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The court has granted interim bail to R Sugathan, the BJP councillor of Thiruvananthapuram Corporation. He was granted bail in the murder attempt case and in the case of attacking the police. The Nedumangad Second Class Magistrate Court granted bail to Sugathan. He was granted bail to take oath again as the Kerala High Court had quashed the oath taken in the name of gods by the BJP councilors However, Sugathan can be released only if he gets bail from the high court in the KAAPA case.

Sugathan was granted interim bail in the case of attacking Prashanth of Aruvippuram Kulumala, at the Vattiyoorkavu Vellakadavu Junction in March and in the case of attacking cops who came to arrest him in the KAAPA case. The court had earlier denied bail in both these cases.

However, Sugathan filed a bail plea again citing high court verdict that he had to take the oath again in the corporation before the allotted period. Based on this, interim bail was granted from 5 pm on July 13 to 9 pm on July 14. The court granted bail after considering the travel time from jail to his residence.
