Kafir screenshot row: DYFI leader arrested in Vadakara

KOZHIKODE: A special investigation team arrested a person in connection with the Kafir screenshot case. Jithin Bhaskar, a native of Thiruvallur and DYFI leader, was arrested in the incident. Jithin was summoned by the special investigation team for questioning today. The arrest was recorded at the office of the Vadakara Crime Branch team.

Jithin Bhaskar was questioned by the investigation team twice. It was earlier found that it was Jithin who first posted the screenshot in the WhatsApp group called Vadakara Squad. This is a WhatsApp group formed just before the Lok Sabha elections. The group included leaders of the Vadakara Block DYFI Committee and the Vadakara Mandal CPM. Initial information is that Jithin Bhaskar himself made the screenshot.

The Kafir screenshot was circulated against the UDF candidate during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The police initially accused Youth League activist Muhammad Kasim of the case. Later, following the intervention of the High Court, an investigation revealed that DYFI activist Ribesh Ramakrishnan had originally posted it. The investigation did not proceed further. Later, the first arrest was made during the investigation conducted after the UDF government came to power.
