Eight dead in Kerala rain havoc; one feared swept away in Kannur

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The death toll from rain-related incidents in Kerala has risen to eight.
In Malappuram, three-year-old Abdul Muhaini died after falling into a stream and being swept away by the strong current.
In a separate incident in Kondotty, a four-year-old boy drowned after being swept away in the Neerad stream. The deceased was Adam Ayman, son of Hameed and Nadeera of Kannappa Thodi, Meleparambu, Nediyiruppu. He accidentally fell into the swollen stream while walking along its bank. Although he was pulled out of the water soon afterwards, doctors could not save his life.

In Kottayam's Puthuppally, an 11-year-old boy died after falling into a waterlogged area. The victim, Milan, was a native of Vakathanam. He was rushed to the hospital, but his life could not be saved.
Earlier in the day, four people had lost their lives in rain-related incidents across the state. At Payyanithottam in Poonjar Thekkekara, a landslide caused a house to collapse, killing 24-year-old Josephin Johny and his mother, Regina.

In Idukki's Adoormala, Sumathi, a resident of Kudayathoor, died in a landslide, while two others were rescued.
At Kolahalamedu in Idukki, Prabhakaran Nair, a native of Vaikom, was killed after soil collapsed onto the house of Leelamani, a relative.
In Padinjarathara, Wayanad, Benny, a native of Manjoora, died of electrocution.

Meanwhile, one person was swept away in the Kanjirappuzha river at Peravoor in Kannur. The missing person has been identified as Hanifa, a resident of Kottachuram.
