MUMBAI: The railways have approved a special Onam train service from Mumbai to Kerala. The railways have informed that the special service will depart from Mumbai LTT for Thiruvananthapuram at 4 pm on Sunday, with the return service to Mumbai scheduled for August 29.
Although the southern railway had announced 112 Onam special trains from major cities, including Chennai and Bengaluru, the absence of special trains from Mumbai had triggered strong protests. The railways had initially explained that the delay was because Malayali organisations had not requested a special train service.
Following reports on the issue, MP K C Venugopal had also stated that he would seek urgent intervention in the matter. With strong protests from passengers and intervention by elected representatives, the railways finally approved the special train service.
