KOCHI: Former DGP Lokanath Behera is stepping down as the Managing Director of Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL). His official term is set to end on August 30. District Collector G Priyanka will take temporary charge of the post until a new managing director is appointed.

Behera took charge as the KMRL managing director in August 2021. His tenure was extended twice by the previous LDF government. The current UDF government is unlikely to extend his term this time. The government has already begun the process of appointing a new managing director.

The temporary arrangement has been made to ensure that administrative activities continue without disruption until the new MD is appointed.
