THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After a prolonged lull, the southwest monsoon is expected to become active again over Kerala in the coming days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The weather department has forecast isolated heavy rainfall across the state until Monday.
For Saturday, a yellow alert has been issued for Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts, indicating the possibility of heavy rain at isolated places.
The IMD said the expected increase in rainfall is linked to a low-pressure area that has formed over the Bay of Bengal off the Odisha coast. Another low-pressure system is also likely to develop off the Gujarat coast. In addition, a trough of low pressure stretching from Gujarat to Kerala is expected to strengthen monsoon conditions over the state.
