MVD to lock reel lovers: Separate fines for each illegal vehicle modifications 

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) in Kerala is preparing to take strict action against illegal vehicle modifications in the state. The decision follows a recent high court order directing authorities to identify vehicles that have been illegally modified for filming social media reels. The high court has directed that a fine of Rs 5,000 be imposed for each illegal modification detected on a vehicle.

The MVD has decided to identify and take action against vehicles that have been illegally altered for filming Instagram and Facebook Reels. Meantime, the officials have also been directed to prepare a detailed report on the number of vehicles caught with such modifications over the past three months.

The high court has made it clear that vehicles must be used on public roads in the same condition and specifications in which they were manufactured by the company. The UDF had reportedly promised during electioneering that if they came to power, certain relaxations would be allowed for vehicle modifications. However, the high court order makes it clear that there will be no such concessions. As part of the enforcement drive, the motor vehicles department is expected to intensify inspections across the state in the coming days to identify and take action against vehicles with illegal modifications.
