Nilambur Flash Floods: Three more bodies recovered, death toll rises to five

MALAPPURAM: The death toll from the flash flood at a tourist spot in T K Nagar at Amarambalam, Nilambur, has risen to five. Three more bodies were recovered in the search that began early Monday morning. Two bodies were recovered last night. Reports say one more woman is still missing. The missing woman has been identified as Sajitha, wife of Sanjay Das of T K Nagar Veluthedath.

The bodies recovered today have been identified as those of Rahim of Karuvarakundu, Rafeeq of Vandoor Kottakunnu, and Sajjad. All three bodies have been shifted to Manjeri Medical College. The bodies recovered yesterday were those of Anas (31), son of Kottakkal Mangadan Hameed, owner of Mangadan Bus, and Muhammad Kutty (63) of Tirur.

There was no rain in the spot or in the surrounding areas at the time of the accident yesterday. Since there was very little water in the river, a large number of tourists had gathered at the spot. It was during this time that the flash flood occurred. Six people were caught in the rapidly flowing water. Authorities are also checking whether more people were affected by the incident. An intensive search operation is continuing in the area.
