Nursing student found hanging; family alleges mental harassment by teachers

KOLLAM: A nursing student was found hanging at his home in Oachira, Kollam. The deceased has been identified as Ahmed Najad, a native of Alumkadavu in Karunagappally. He was found dead at his home early on Friday. Najad was a second-year BSc Nursing student at a private nursing college.

Meanwhile, his relatives alleged that he committed suicide after being subjected to severe mental harassment by teachers. According to the family, teachers allegedly harassed him after he scored low marks in his previous examination. They also claimed that he was not allowed to appear for subsequent examinations, which left him deeply distressed.

SFI workers staged a protest at the college, demanding an investigation into the incident. College authorities later held discussions with the student leaders. Following the talks, the college management said four teachers against whom allegations had been raised had been suspended.
