VIZHINJAM: The launch of the new Priyadarshini bus service met with an unfortunate setback on its very first day after a 49-year-old conductor suffered a severe leg fracture at the Vizhinjam depot.
The injured employee has been identified as S. Sindhu, a native of Venganoor who is attached to the Vizhinjam KSRTC depot.
The incident took place on Monday evening, just as the newly introduced service concluded its inaugural day of operations. According to station sources, Sindhu had just finished her scheduled shift on the Priyadarshini bus. While alighting from the vehicle, she lost her footing and fell into a deep pothole on the unpaved depot grounds.
Medical examinations later confirmed a fracture to the lower part of her left ankle. Speaking about the injury, Sindhu noted that her leg has been placed in a heavy bandage and cast. "The doctors have advised me to take strict medical rest for at least two months," she said.
