WAYANAD: Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi on Saturday described the success of the student protest in Delhi as an important moment for the country, saying it showed that people could still make those in power listen.
Speaking during her visit to the Kalladi landslide disaster zone, Priyanka said she was deeply moved by the developments in Delhi. She said the young protesters had refused to give up despite being confronted with water cannons and tear gas, eventually forcing the government to back down.
“We stood with the students,” Priyanka said, adding that her brother had been raising his voice on the issue and fighting for it for a long time.
She thanked everyone who had taken part in the protest, including her brother, the Congress, the NSUI and others who had stood by the students.
Priyanka also congratulated those who had spoken up for what was right, saying she was “very happy” and emotional when she heard the news.
“For the last 10 to 12 years, I have often wondered when the youth of this country would wake up. Today, we saw the answer,” she said.
