THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Shashi Tharoor MP survived a scare after getting stuck in an elevator for 20 minutes. The incident took place at Prashant Hotel in PMG at around 7.15 pm yesterday. Tharoor had come to an event organised by the Rotary Club on the hotel's sixth floor.

There were seven people in the lift. The accident was caused by more people boarding than the limit. The issue was detected in the first of the two lifts in the hotel.

After noticing the issue, the staff at the hotel tried opening the lift but to no avail. After being informed, the rescue operation was resumed after officials from the Chengalchoola Fire Station arrived. The officials opened the lift using a hydraulic spreader and helped everyone, including the Thiruvananthapuram MP, out. Chengalchoola SFRO Jitesh Babu led the rescue operation.
