PALAKKAD: Strict action will be taken in Tamil Nadu if lottery tickets released by the Kerala State Lottery Department are sold there. The Tamil Nadu police are intensifying checking in Walayar for those entering Tamil Nadu with Kerala lotteries. The police are checking all vehicles carrying the lottery tickets.
There are many lottery shops in Walayar to attract the people of Tamil Nadu. It is always crowded here. Most of the people coming to buy bumper tickets are from different parts of Coimbatore. People from Tirupur, Erode and Salem districts are also regular customers. Some take lottery tickets for retail sale. However, in Tamil Nadu, where lottery is banned, possession and sale of lottery tickets is illegal.
Although action was taken against lottery earlier, checking vehicles was intensified after the Vijay-led government came to power. If caught, punishments including imprisonment and fines will be imposed. All vehicles will be checked at the police outpost in Walayar. Four were caught with lottery tickets from a Tamil Nadu bus that arrived in Coimbatore on Thursday.
