THE COMMENT MADE BY SANOOP ON SOCIAL MEDIA

THODUPUZHA: The police charged a youth with the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for posting anti-national comments on social media in connection with the Pahalgam terror attack. North Paravur native Muhammad Sanoop (26) was remanded. The youth, who works in Saudi Arabia, was arrested by the Karipur police on Friday morning when he landed at the airport. The police action was based on a complaint by Yuva Morcha State Secretary Adeena Bharathi. The complaint pointed out the anti-national comment made by the youngster while reacting to a video of a Malayali victim's kin explaining the horrific incident to the media. Adeena had filed a complaint with the Muttom police a year ago, along with a screenshot of the distasteful comment made by Sanoop.

After conducting a detailed investigation into the complaint, the police found the comment to be grave and insensitive. This led to the arrest. The accused, who was produced before the Muttom court, was remanded for 14 days.
