KOCHI: The lawyer of the complainant has come forward alleging mystery behind the concealment of information about the three pairs of elephant tusks which actor Mohanlal possesses. Advocate Abraham P Meachinkara said only two pairs of ivory tusks were revealed and there is a mystery behind the concealment of information about the three pairs initially and demanded a proper investigation into this.
Mohanlal had revealed that he has five pairs of elephant tusks in his possession. He has been directed to submit information about the three newly revealed pairs of elephant tusks. Mohanlal has informed that the elephant tusks were given to him as a gift.
Two pairs of elephant tusks were found during an inspection conducted by income tax officials at Mohanlal's residence at Thevara in Ernakulam on December 21, 2011. Subsequently, the government gave him an opportunity to declare the elephant tusks in 2015.
On January 16, 2016, the chief wildlife warden issued the ownership certificate of the elephant tusks to Mohanlal. However, the high court had cancelled the ownership certificate for the two pairs of elephant tusks and 13 handicrafts made of elephant tusks in Mohanlal's possession. The action was on the basis that the certificate was issued without following the procedures. It was during these procedures Mohanlal revealed that he has more tusks in his possession under the forest department's one-time grievance redressal scheme.
