Former Thiruvananthapuram Mayor Arya Rajendran

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former Thiruvananthapuram Mayor Arya Rajendran is seeking to shift her political base from the state capital to Kozhikode. Arya has written to the party requesting permission to shift her area of political activity from Thiruvananthapuram to Kozhikode. The CPM Thiruvananthapuram District Committee has forwarded her application to the State Centre. The decision was taken at the district committee's last meeting. The State Committee will take a further decision on the request. If the party grants approval, Arya's political activities will be based in Kozhikode.

Arya Rajendran entered the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation as its youngest candidate and subsequently became the youngest mayor in the country. She married MLA Sachin Dev in September 2022 while serving as mayor.

Arya did not contest the latest Corporation election. Criticism against her mounted following the LDF's heavy defeat in the Corporation. Arya is a member of the CPM Thiruvananthapuram District Committee and the DYFI State Secretariat. She is already active in organisational programmes in Kozhikode in her capacity as a DYFI leader.
