'Cinema tsunami will be over soon, govt's future unstable'; Stalin makes big prediction about TVK government

CHENNAI: Former Chief Minister and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president MK Stalin reiterated his prediction that the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam government will not complete its tenure in Tamil Nadu. Stalin said that the current TVK government will not complete five years and that this administration is moving forward at the mercy of the DMK. The former Chief Minister warned that the government formed based on mere popularity will not last long.

Stalin's remarks were made while addressing party workers in Chennai yesterday. He described the election results as a 'cinema tsunami' rather than a political wave. Stalin said voters supported Vijay out of the enthusiasm of their favourite film actor forming a party rather than political convictions.

“Just as children lose their enthusiasm for new toys after a few days, people's enthusiasm for this party will soon cool down. Finally, like a child returning to its mother, voters in Tamil Nadu will come back to the DMK,” Stalin quipped. The former chief minister argued that the government's future is unstable, noting that the TVK has not been able to secure the 118 seats required for an absolute majority on its own.

Stalin recalled that communist parties, including the CPI and CPM, as well as parties like the VCK and Muslim League (IUML), had initially decided to support the Vijay government from outside, but later they changed their stance and became part of the cabinet. He added that various moves were made to split the AIADMK, but none succeeded, and that the current political situation in Tamil Nadu is quite unstable.
