AHMEDABAD: An eyewitness revealed the chilling details inside the morgue that kept the body of Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, the senior pilot who died in the Ahmedabad plane crash. Romin Vohra, the eyewitness, said that the captain’s hands were found clutching the steering wheel in his seat inside the morgue. Vohra revealed that he saw Sumeet's body kept in the morgue after the accident. As per his statement, the back side of the captain’s body was burnt while the front portion mostly remained unaffected. The white uniform shirt, gold stripes on the epaulette, black tie and pants remained intact. The hands were found clutching the steering column that controls the plane. Romin said that the steering part of the plane might have moved when the rescuers were removing the captain’s body from the cockpit.
Romin's aunt Yashmin, her brother Parvez, who worked for Amazon in London, and her three-year-old niece were killed in the accident. Romin said in an interview with a YouTube channel that what he witnessed inside the morgue was nothing short of heartbreaking.
Romin had to walk to the morgue to identify the bodies of his relatives. He gained access to the morgue through his experience working as a pathology lab assistant at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital during the COVID period. Many bodies were lying side by side on the floor of the morgue. The severed heads and limbs, and the charred body of a mother holding her own child, were all painful sights. Romin said he will never forget the moment when he saw a severed, burnt head of a little girl and tried to identify if it was his niece.
