NEW DELHI: Indian shooter, coach and former Asian Games gold medalist Jaspal Rana (49) passed away last night at Delhi's Max Hospital. He had recently undergone a stent surgery. Rana was the coach of Indian shooter Manu Bhaker, who won two medals at the Paris Olympics.

Rana had suffered chest pain during the ISSF World Cup in Germany. He was rushed to hospital after experiencing similar discomfort on the flight back to India.

He was one of the best Indian athletes in the history of the Commonwealth Games, dominating four editions (1994, 1998, 2002 and 2006). His most famous performance for India was at the 2006 Doha Asian Games, where he won three gold medals and equalled the world record in the 25m centre fire pistol.
