BHUVANESWAR: A woman courageously saved her husband from the attack of a bear. The incident happened in Milu village of Karanjia in Mayurbhanj of Odisha. Malde Soren, who was seriously injured in the bear attack, is undergoing treatment.

Malde Soren of Odisha and his wife Lily Soren were collecting leaves in an area near the forest when the bear attacked them. There were six bears together at the time of the incident. Forest ranger Prasant Kumar Swain said that suddenly a group of bears attacked Malde.

When the bear mauled Malde Soren, Lily somehow faced it. She faced the bear with tangia (an axe-like weapon). The bear was injured in the attack and soon retreated into the forest. Malde sustained serious injuries including severe scalp wounds. The local emergency services rushed to the spot and took him to a nearby hospital. As his injuries were serious, he was later shifted to the district hospital.

Incidents of people being injured and killed in wild animal attacks are continuously reported. Six people, including four members of a family, were trampled to death by a herd of wild elephants in Jharkhand's Hazaribagh district. The herd had entered Gondwar village in Churchu block on Thursday night and trampled the six to death early Friday morning.
