KONDOTTY: A private bus swerving a bend at Kinarupadi on the Kondotty Valiyaparamba Cherumuttam road was in for a rare sight. The driver and the passengers, sitting in the front, found a toddler gazing at them while sitting on the wet road. Though shocked at the sight, the driver, Ramachandran, intervened promptly, applied the brakes, and brought the bus to a halt. Conductor Navas jumped out and picked up the baby. Ramachandran and Navas saved the baby girl, who was not even one year old.
The incident took place at 8.30 am on Wednesday. The child reached the road by knee-walking through an open gate from a house on the roadside without the family noticing it. The incident occurred while the child's parents were sitting on the veranda of their house, reading a newspaper. If not for the timely action of the driver and conductor of the 'Safa Marwa' bus, which runs from Parampil to Farokh in Olavattur, things could have gone awry. CCTV footage of the incident has been released.
