THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: This can be used for everything from surveillance to food delivery. They are equipped with cameras to detect even distant objects. This novel drone developed by nine students of the Aero CET team at the Thiruvananthapuram College of Engineering (CET) is in the spotlight of national achievement.
The team won first place in the Best Technical Design category in the Autonomous Drone Development Challenge held at KCG College of Technology, Chennai. The team won 10th place at the All-India level and first place in Kerala. Over 60 teams participated in the competition.
The mission was to fly the drone to a specific location in the college and lift an 80-gram object. The drone's design helped it quickly land on the spot by scanning the QR code. The drone was developed in four months. Mechanical Engineering Assistant Professor A. Praveen, who mentored the team, told Kerala Kaumudi that with modification, the drone could also be used in fields including defence and geo-mapping.
Amala N. Santosh, a third-year student of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, led the project. 'CET Alumni', the alumni organisation of CET, supported the project at various stages. The sponsorship was provided by Eram Holdings.
