Malayalis are shocked by the demise of Shaji N Karun, a director who made Malayalam cinema famous at the national and international levels. He was a much-loved director for superstars Mammootty and Mohanlal. However, there was one person who hated Shaji N Karun - Leader K Karunakaran.

Shaji N Karun became the thorn in the side of leader K Karunakaran because of a false story concocted by an employee of Chitranjali Studio Lab. The problems started with the story that Shaji refused to cover a government event in which the leader was participating. This false story was an employee's revenge on Shaji for scolding him. However, the consequences that came to Shaji for this were very serious. He was suspended from KSFDC. It lasted for three years.

When Shaji N Karun's first film, "Piravi", was about to be released, the leader was sceptical about whether the film was about him. It is said that he went to Guruvayur and prayed that the film Piravi would not be released. Some had spread rumours that "Piravi" was about the disappearance of Rajan, a student of Chathamangalam Engineering College in Kozhikode. Although Shaji said that the movie had nothing to do with the Rajan case, it didn't help. It was only after the movie was released that everyone realized it.
