Asha Nath G S, who combines youth and experience, will become the Deputy Mayor of Thiruvananthapuram. Asha first entered the corporation by winning the by-election in Pappanamcode ward in 2017. BJP leader Karumom Chandran, who won from Pappanamcode ward in 2015, is Asha's uncle. Tragically, Chandran died of an electric shock while using an iron box in 2017. This incident forced Asha to enter the election fray and retain the BJP turf in Pappanamcode.
No big upset happened as Asha won the ward with a comfortable majority. In 2025, Asha's new constituency was Karumom, which was newly formed after ward delimitation. Due to her massive popularity, the party did not even have to think twice before fielding Asha here. Asha defeated CPM's Advocate Sindhu by a comfortable majority of 1081 votes.
Even during her previous role as a councillor in the corporation, Asha was at the forefront of all the agitations. Asha, over the years and through her works, has amassed a sizeable fan base on social media. Asha also unsuccessfully contested the assembly elections in 2021 from the Left stronghold of Chirayinkeezhu constituency. According to figures, she increased the vote share of the party by 7 % in the constituency and got more than 30,000 votes.
The role of deputy mayor was totally unexpected, as Asha only came to learn about it during the meeting held today. Asha said that she would be one of the people and would help lead developmental programs in the capital city.
