KOZHIKODE: Chairman KS Mani said that Milma has achieved a record in milk procurement. The increase is 14 percent. Procurement had declined sharply after Covid. However, there has been a continuous increase for the last six months.
The average increase is 20 percent in Ernakulam Union, 18 percent in Thiruvananthapuram, and 11.5 percent in Malabar. Milma has given Rs. 255 crore to dairy farmers as an additional milk price and subsidy. This has attracted more dairy farmers to cooperatives.
Climate change has also helped in the increase in milk procurement. The increase in farms has also been a reason. Meanwhile, the figures of the Dairy Development Department show that there has been a 32 percent decrease in the number of cattle in Kerala.
Milk price hike after local body elections?
Milma Chairman KS Mani has hinted that milk prices will be increased after the local body elections. He said that an expert committee has recommended an increase in milk prices. "Dairy farmers are also demanding an increase in prices. A decision can be taken only after calling a Milma board meeting and discussing it. The government will be consulted," he said. The possibility of an increase of up to Rs 3-4 per litre is possible.
