THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Police have registered a case against 28 people in connection with the violence at the Cliff House March organized by the Youth Congress on Wednesday night in protest against the DYFI workers blocking MP Shafi Parambil on the road. Three people have been remanded. Museum SI Vipin Gabriel, who stopped an attempt to kill policemen by throwing a flambeau during the march, was burnt. The FIR also states that the policemen could have died from the fire if the flambeau that hit his head had not been stopped.
Youth Congress leaders Yusuf, Delio and Samuel have been remanded. The first accused, Shyam Lal, has not been arrested. The case has been filed under sections including attempt to murder and inciting riots. Mahila Congress leaders Veena S Nair, Leena, DCC General Secretary Sreekala and Corporation Councilor Mary Pushpam are among the accused.
About fifty activists who came for the march threw flambeaus and stones at the police, who tried to stop them by setting up a barricade. The activists did not disperse despite the use of water cannons, so the police arrested them and removed them. The activists destroyed CITU and CPM flagpoles and boards. The police's wireless set and lathis were destroyed. The FIR states that there was damage of Rs. 8000.
Not Bahubali's armour
A video of Youth Congress District President Nemom Shajeer arguing with Cantonment SHO Prajeesh Shashi during the clash during the Youth Congress march had gone viral. When Shajeer asked why he was lathi-charged, SHO Prajeesh said that we are not wearing Bahubali's armour but normal body protectors of the Kerala Police. The SHO also said that policemen are also human beings and if stones or flambeaus are thrown at them, they will react against it.
